The previous term wound up and unwound the new one, Champions children got caught up in the excitement that the third term brings; the third and the most important term which determines the transitioning of the children into higher classes.
Champions International Schools, the leading school in the community, with her welcoming programmes and without the exclusion of her norms of special prayers and thanksgiving to God, has made resumption week exciting for the children.
Every year, every term, the school is known for her well thoughtful programmes, not excluding her MONTHLY PRAYER MEETINGS among students and parents for academic excellence and prosperity respectively; THRICE A WEEK BREAD OF CHAMPIONS to teach morals to the children especially from the scriptures; DAILY CONFESSION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE composed by the Director Of Studies (D.S), Mr. Fola Adekeye; DAILY WATCH WORDS from the Bible.
The term looks promising as some development have also been made to further improve the standard of the school in all areas. This was made known when the Director of Studies was addressing the staff and students on their first general assembly in the school.
While Mr. Fola was delivering his speech, he started, “This term, we are going to be discussing VIRTUES OF OBEDIENCE.” He attributed this generation to intractability. He said, “This is a generation full of unruly children that are difficult to manage and it takes the grace of God to bring up a child in the right way.” He then warned the children to desist from this crooked generation using the book of Act 2:20 to expatiate his stance. He implored them not to act like the end-time children that have no regard for anybody.
“Be a true champion and be obedient; to be obedient is to do what your parents and teachers tell you to do. To be obedient is to be nice to everybody and treat them with respect. This is the culture we will be teaching you this term. I want you to go out there and behave differently from the unruly children,” he submitted.
Before the DS address, the CEO, Mrs Adekeye Abosede had opened the floor with thanks-giving to God, prayed and encouraged the children. She emphasized on the practice of immature dating among students and warned them against it. She beseeched them to choose their friends wisely and not walk with friends that will dent their image.
Also, she encouraged them to continue in their sense of decency in and outside the school.
Finally, she reminded them of the coming promotional exams and charged them to buckle down since promotion is not automatic in the school.
The first Thursday of the month, being the first prayer meeting of the students in the term, the children were gathered for their First Thursday’s programmes.
At Junior College, Miss Tracy who is a member of the Anti-Bully Marshal in the school, lectured the students on the negative effects of bullying.
“Say no to bullying,” she started. She related to the students that bullying can cause many negative and permanent damage in the victim. Academic degradation, psychology problem, declined confidence in victims, frustration, suicide among others were the points explained.
She, however, encouraged the students to report any act of bullying to the anti-bully marshals among them. “Champions International Schools frowns at bully,” she said.
The Associate Principal, Junior College, Mrs omilegan, who delivered her speech on VIRTUES OF OBEDIENCE also spoke about DETERMINATION. She started, extracting her text from Isiah 1:19, she referred to obedience as compliance to instructions. “An obedient child excels and is successful by obeying instructions,” she said.
Also, she revealed that the school will only promote students above 65% after the cumulative of three terms. “This is the school’s standard,” she informed.
She encouraged them to be determined and put more effort in their promotional exams as promotion in Champions is by merit. She also urged them to start preparing now. “Start now, procrastination is dangerous,” she concluded.
The last day of school in the week also saw the Deputy HM Academics, Mrs. Ajayi’s version of the topic: VIRTUES OF OBEDIENCE. She made her readings from Deuteronomy 5:33, 28:1 and Joshua 1:8.
“Obedience means doing what you’re asked to do and surrendering to authorities,” she said. She continued, “Obedience is a virtue that all child of God should have.” According to her, success, blessing and long life are the advantages that come with obedience.
She, however, charged the students to cultivate the habit of obedience.
